Christmas Bird Counts and Citizen Science

On this first Tuesday of December, our guest is Dr. Chad Wilsey, Spatial Ecologist and Climate Research Manager for the National Audubon Society.  We will be talking about the Christmas Bird Count, now in its 116th year, and how information from that and other citizen-science efforts are informing scientific research.

The Mendocino Coast Audubon Society hosts two such Counts each year.  You can find out how to join in the fun at their Website.

Peregrine Audubon Society also conducts a Count in the Ukiah area.  To find out more, go to their Website:

About Tim

Host for Oak and Thorn on the first and third Sundays of every month, and The Ecology Hour on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Oak & Thorn aims to present the widest possible spectrum of Celtic music, from traditional to contemporary styles, along with information about history and culture. The Ecology Hour- Science Edition (co-hosted with Bob Spies) presents recent scientific findings about the natural world and our place in it. My other interests include brewing, gardening, birding, cooking, woodworking, and history. I live on Middle Ridge in Albion, California, among wonderful neighbors.
